Entrepreneurs often invest in products or new service offerings that are doomed to fail from the outset because they fail to notice what is apparent to a casual observer. When we expect a particular outcome or we are intently focused on a specific measurement we often can’t see the obvious.
The human mind uses filters to allow it to focus. However, the things it filters are often important to understanding the problem. In medieval times jesters were used to help monarchs see the obvious. The stars we see at night are out even during the day. We just can’t see them because the sun is too bright.
