Do Your Employees Know Their Contribution?

Everyone deserves a living wage, but the wages earned by an employee should be directly proportional to the value they provide to their employer. A pay raise should not be based on how long a person has worked for an employer or some government mandate. When my kids have come to me and asked “How do I approach my boss to ask him for a raise” I simply reply with “What have you done for the owner to increase their profits? Did you gain some new job skills that make you more valuable? Did you do something that helped reduce the owner’s overall costs so that they can make more profit? Or did you do something to increase the owner’s revenues?”

Since our school system does not teach our kids how the economy works, employers need to help their employees understand how their role as a worker contributes to the overall business.

Do your employees understand how their efforts contribute to the overall profitability of your business?
