All small business owners with a website should have a basic understanding of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques which is why we created this SEP Primer.
SEO is defined as the process of improving the quality and quantity of website traffic to a website or a web page from search engines such as Google. SEO targets unpaid traffic, also known as “natural” or “organic” results, rather than direct traffic, such as when they enter the URL into a search field, or paid traffic, such as when you buy ads.
As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers:
- How search engines work
- The computer-programmed algorithms that dictate how search engine’s behavior
- What people search for
- The actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines
- Which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience.
SEO is performed because a website will receive more visitors from search engines when the webpages are ranked higher on the search engine results page (SERP). These visitors can then potentially be converted into customers.
We have created an SEO Primer in a series of posts that will teach small business owners everything they need to know about SEO so they can understand how to drive more free traffic to their content marketing pages.
