Almost anything can be sold from a roadside stand. If you’ve always wanted multiple locations, roadside stands are a great way to enjoy the benefits of expansion without the typical high costs. After all, each stand is a new location and increases the exposure of your brand.
Roadside stands are portable, flexible, inexpensive, and appreciated by locals and tourists alike. They can be just the ticket for an area that has a high concentration of either vehicle or even pedestrian traffic.
When using a roadside stand with good vehicular traffic, be sure to employ portable corrugated plastic yard signs to create greater awareness and give motorists time to consider your offer. Simple road signs can cost under $10 each and improve your sales dramatically.
In most cases, I recommend a total of 7 signs placed on the side of the road, extending in each direction from the stand. The first set of signs should be placed 3 miles away from the stand in each direction, the second set should be 1 mile away, the third set should be 500 feet away, and the last and seventh sign should be placed right in front of the stand. This spacing is the optimal distance for vehicular traffic.
Be sure to take into account that motorists might be zooming by your signs so only have a few words on each sign. Also, don’t forget to included the distance to your stand. For example, your sign could say, “Bonsai Trees 4 Sale – 3 Miles Ahead!”
Roadside stands can be used in many places other than just on the side of the road. Consider places that have high pedestrian traffic such as at fairs, shopping malls, supermarkets, or other places with large parking lots.
You may not even have to man the roadside stand if you arrange for what is called a fusion marketing alliance. In a fusion marketing alliance, you locate a partner that appeals to the same market segment with a different product. You then arrange for a cooperative venture where your partner sells your product along with his for a share of your sales.
